Updates, backups and migration
Keep profiles, sequences and images safe through an update.

Back up before replacing the app
Use Settings → Backup & Restore. Back up raw images and finished masters separately from application settings.
Check Settings → File Paths for the resolved database, logs and capture folders. Settings and the database may live in different locations, and environment configuration can relocate them.
Install a new version
- Read what changed, including upgrade notes.
- Download the appropriate bundle and verify its SHA-256.
- Keep the previous portable application folder while testing the new one.
- Open the new version and confirm your profile, saved sequences and data paths.
- Test your equipment before relying on a long unattended run.
The built-in updater verifies signed platform manifests against the app’s trusted key. Manual downloads remain available in the download center.
From Nightshade to Skotiq
The desktop migrates existing settings, profiles and history to the new identity on first launch. Android uses a new application ID: install Skotiq separately and pair it again.
If you manage a headless host or custom launch script, update old NIGHTSHADE_* environment settings to their SKOTIQ_* equivalents as part of the migration. Keep a recoverable backup before changing a managed installation.
Restoring
Use the built-in restore flow and verify the chosen backup belongs to the intended setup. Keep the current data until the restored copy has been checked. If a migration fails, preserve its logs and backup instead of deleting the database to make the app open.
