Remote access

Connect from another computer or the Android companion.

Keep the host running

Keep the imaging computer running and connected to the equipment. The Android app is a companion for monitoring and light control. A second desktop can also connect to the host.

Pair on your local network

  1. Enable Settings → Remote access on the imaging computer.
  2. Start pairing to display the code and QR.
  3. On the companion, scan the QR or enter the host and pairing code manually.
  4. Confirm the host’s current status appears before using controls.

The usual server port is 8080, but use the configured value. If discovery fails, try the host’s LAN address and check the firewall. Keep both devices on the same trusted network for initial setup.

Away from home

Skotiq supports reaching the host through your own Tailscale network. Install and sign in to Tailscale on both devices, then use the tailnet address shown in Remote access and its pairing flow. A tailnet route still requires Skotiq pairing.

Devices connect directly over your local network or Tailscale. Keep the control API off the public internet.

Android installation

Download the ARM64 APK for most current phones. Older 32-bit devices may need ARMv7; x86-64 is mainly for compatible emulators/devices. Allow installation from the browser or file manager you used, then open the APK and pair with your host.

The app is sideloaded rather than installed from the Play Store. After the Nightshade-to-Skotiq rename, install the new application and pair again; it has a new application identity.

Reconnection problems

Check that the host is awake, Remote access is enabled, the address is current, and both sides can reach the same network. Do not share pairing codes or access tokens in support reports. Get help.
